New York State Field Band Conference (NYSFBC)
1999 New Band Classification

A new classification system is being introduced this year in the New York State Field Band Conference. The large/small school classification is based on enrollment in grades K-12. Schools with enrollments under 4000 are classified as "Small School", those 4000 or over are classified as "Large School". Bands are then placed into Division 1, 2, or 3, based on competitive similarities, such as scores from the previous year's championship, overall depth of programing, and staff sizing.

The following class abbreviations are used in the Conference's publications and in this site:

Classification based on grades K-12
Small School (less than 4000) Large School (4000 or greater)
Division 1SD1LD1
Division 2SD2LD2
Division 3SD3LD3
