A few raindrops fell before the first band started. The AA class bands played, but before the national bands entered the field, there was a 15-minute delay to check on the thunderstorm threat. All of the national bands were able to play. Most of the crowd sought the safety of their cars before the scores were announced. Due to the approaching lightning, the bands and their leaders were not able to stay for the award ceremony.
